چکیده

Abstract It is important to evaluate nitrogen use efficiency and tolerance of trees in order improve their productivity. In this study, both were evaluated for 338 Populus deltoides genotypes from six provenances. The plants cultured under normal (750 μM NH 4 NO 3 ) low (5 conditions months. Growth, chlorophyll content glutamine synthetase activity each genotype measured. Under nitrogen, heights, ground diameter, leaf area, root biomass, contents significantly lower than those level. Correlation analysis showed that nutrient distribution changed different treatments. There was a negative correlation between traits biomass level, however, the became positive treatment. Moreover, with decrease morphology levels weakened. growth two treatments by combining principal component fuzzy mathematical membership function; results accounted large proportion variation evaluation model. According comprehensive treatments, P. could be divided into nine categories, wide genotypic diversity tolerance. As result, 26 N-efficient 24 N-inefficient selected. By comparative morphological physiological significant indicators tolerance, which considerable significance breeding poplar varieties high efficiencies.

Population genomics of the eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides)

Despite its economic importance as a bioenergy crop and key role in riparian ecosystems, little is known about genetic diversity and adaptation of the eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides). Here, we report the first population genomics study for this species, conducted on a sample of 425 unrelated individuals collected in 13 states of the southeastern United States. The trees were genotyped by...

Quantitative proteome profile of water deficit stress responses in eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides) leaves

Drought stress is a recurring feature of world climate and the single most important factor influencing agricultural yield worldwide. Plants display highly variable, species-specific responses to drought and these responses are multifaceted, requiring physiological and morphological changes influenced by genetic and molecular mechanisms. Moreover, the reproducibility of water deficit studies is...

Photosynthesis of Nuttall oak (Quercus nuttaZZii Palm.) seedlings interplanted beneath an eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides Bartr. ex Marsh.) nurse crop

An afforestation system which utilizes the pioneer species eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoides Bartr. ex Marsh.) as a nurse for slower growing, disturbance-dependent species is under evaluation as a forest rehabilitation tool on former agricultural land in the Lower Mississippi River Alluvial Valley, USA. The primary objectives of this study were to quantify understory light availability in t...

’ Economics of Afforestation with Eastern Cottonwood (populus Deltoides) on Agricultural Land in the Lower

Higher prices for hardwood stumpage and changes in agricultural policies may favor afforestation on sites in the Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley (LMAV) which are suitable for Eastern cottonwood (Popu/us de/toides Bartr.). We examined the potential returns to a landowner growing cottonwood on three soil classes common to the LMAV. We specified the conditions under which we think such afforesta...
